Amanda Knox’s Awkward, Robotic TV Appearances: New Science Could Blow Away Such Fraud

Posted by Peter Quennell

In Italy the zillion or so Italians that Amanda Knox has framed are starting to push back on steroids in the Italian media and courts.

More on that coming up. Meanwhile Americans have been a tad less nimble to realize that they’ve swallowed a gigantic hoax.

Unsurprising, perhaps, given years of uniquely one-sided TV coverage of the case. But thanks to the good English-language reporters in Italy who have persevered. And thanks to CNN’s Nancy Grace for her biting segment this week, making it quite obvious where she stands on guilt.

Knox’s TV appearances and written statements are ringing more and more hollow as they lose all touch with reality. See our post immediately below. Such a brazen mangling of hard facts is absolutely absurd.

The professionals Vivianna and Friendofstfrank, main posters here, each have posts in the works for us on what they have been reading from Knox’s persona on the TV screen.

In the meantime, please check out these videos on the new science. Each is an hour long. They show just how hard it could get for any future Knoxes and Sollecitos to sustain a similar hoax in future.

Here’s an overview of the videos from the New York Times.

The program looks at how developments in neuroscience are affecting court cases and might do so even more radically in the future. It sets up a fictional trial involving a shooting during a convenience store robbery, cutting between courtroom scenes and visits with researchers and legal scholars who are working on the front edge of this world.

By mapping brain activity, scientists know quite a bit about which regions are involved with processes like facial recognition, as well as the differences between mature adult brains and the brains of young people. (The fictional shooting suspect is 18.) The program has segments on how this research might be applied to issues like determining whether a witness is correctly identifying someone, whether a defendant is lying about not having been at a particular location, even whether potential jurors have racial biases.

Researchers, able to see the implications of their work, are also already studying whether knowledgeable test subjects can subvert the technology, rigging test results by how they think or where they focus their eyes.

ah, Peter, you have mentioned me here. What I really want to tie together is both the real motivations of the players - particularly correcting that of RS - and then help folk understand AK’s as a schizophrenic attachment-disordered somnambulist hallucinating an alternate reality based on her obsession with J. K. Rowling’s world.

Then, you tie in the neurolinguistics, neuroscience, optic neurology, learning styles and brain leanings, graphology, hypnotic states of mind and how these are manifested in the body and the choices of drugs and behaviors she uses to self-medicate which has resulted in AK’s current state of somnambulism. Everything that I will mention is from several hard core sciences which are as valid and reliable an any DNA analysis. The kind of questioning and approach that have not been but need to be used with AK will remain between you and me.

I want to do the kind of piece that every FOA sees - every single one. And I want to put forth the challenge to them, that if they want Amanda to be healed of whatever trauma she has experienced and let the truth come out all that it will be necessary for her to spend several hours alone with the Head Mistress of Hogwarts and that happens to be me…

By the way, there are so many superb posts on this site. What is the possibility of gathering several into a book with all publication profits going to MK’s family?

Pax.

Fire away. Recent statements from AK like the one taken apart in the post just below, which contradicted Nencini in seriously surreal terms, suggest she is leading the way down a slippery slope, or her family and friends are pushing her there.

If she read this site and the PMFs more and others less she might be more prone to a move to sensible middle ground. Her Italian lawyers certainly want it - and Ghirga especially always did.

Still framing and blaming Italians NOW when she has every chance of spending the next 20 years among them seems an odd way to ensure any friendly welcome. We see not even one instance ever when any Italian ever treated her unkindly with the possible exception (according only to her though) of teasing from someone in Capanne.

What the FOA refuse to understand or even take into account is that science is always moving forward. This view of theirs is manifest by their insistence that nothing has changed from seven years ago and it’s still the fault of Mignini and the entire Italian Judiciary, not to mention the US state department. There is even a silly piece somewhere, I forget where, called ‘The ritual sacrifice of Amanda Knox” although just who is doing the sacrificing is not clear.

Towards that end though, great leaps and bounds in the science of DNA technology have occurred in the last seven years and as I like to remind folks There is no time limit/statute of limitations upon murder. Knox lives in a dream world surounded by books in a library doing her creative writing and escapism. I am reminded of the quote from SeekingUnderstanding who made the observation that if left to her own devices. “Knox will kill again” I don’t know if that’s true, but given the right circumstances I’m sure it could happen all over again.

Hi Grahame,
I think I said “could…” rather than “will….”, that is, given certain circumstances, triggers, and, especially, pressure and stress.

Others have felt more certain, and said, “will”.

I still like to cling to a possibility of redemption…even though, I have to say, present signs are not encouraging.

You are absolutely right about progress in technology, which certainly does not stand still. It is not just in DNA, too, but in the rapidly expanding research in the actual science of the brain and neurology. Of course, much of this new knowledge is still being expanded, and explored (and too, slightly differently in the UK, and the US), although, as Friendofstfrank says, there is already definitive neuroscience that can be applied.

I sit corrected. However could you please expand upon the tensions ‘Inner child’ to ‘adult.’ and the ensuing argument that perhaps is the conscience? Also the phenomenon of the verbose individual who talks a lot in order to cover up his/her insecurity. Knox rattles on and on and I just wondered if there is a connection.

Posted by Grahame Rhodes on 05/10/14 at 01:42 PM | #

Hi Grahame,
Yes, very definitely there is a connection between such chronic insecurity, a lack of any realistic sense of self, or self-worth,..and verbosity and circumlocution ..going on and on in an uncontrolled, unfocused way which is often just an endless process of free association . Going walkabout in circles.

A person who is busy manipulating (that is, not being straight, not focusing on facts, nor communicating directly, logically and honestly), is also a person who is simultaneously open to being manipulated…hence all the passive aggression, and ‘everyone’s being mean to me etc’.

With regard to our inner relationship between our ‘younger’ and ‘older’ selves - or the fully fledged person who has managed to integrate ‘child’ and ‘parent’.....well, one could write a thesis about this, (and probably many have!).
Would you like to ask a particular question?

Posted by SeekingUnderstanding on 05/10/14 at 02:47 PM | #

PS Grahame,
Well I see you were asking something particular, when you mentioned conscience…

One could say that as a child one refers to the parent,-  to be shown what to do, to be shown what is correct, how to behave, and then later, what is legal, and socially desirable, and why.
And then later on, we gradually learn to consult ourselves about such matters.
So we could say we have learnt to consult our own conscience, instead of our parents. Developing our own conscience, that we can trust and know rests upon sound judgement, is bound to be a gradual, learning process.

Hence the importance of being able to say, ‘I’m sorry, I made a mistake’. We have to be able to say this in order to learn.

Thank you for this. that’s clearer. I was really thinking about obtuse behavior as in Knox strumming one chord on the guitar over and over, or not washing, or occasional sex etc: so your response makes that easier to understand.

Posted by Grahame Rhodes on 05/10/14 at 05:42 PM | #

Is the repetitive strumming of one chord a reluctance, or laziness, about learning complete phrases of music? I always understood that in music a note doesn’t exist by itself but always has to lead to the next one.
It’s also plain inconsiderate, to other people’s ears. Just as poor hygiene is plain inconsiderate to other people’s noses.
Parental laxity? Or teenage rebelliousness ?

Irrationality and disorder seem to have been a common thread in her behaviours.

@SeekingUnderstanding

Re: ‘I don’t deserve this’

Reminiscent of the common teenage complaint “it’s so unfair!” As you say, a failure to take responsibility. Most of us grow out of it but AK hasn’t (and how old is she now for heaven’s sake?).  This must be due in no small part to her family being in deep denial (pre-Perugia and even now).

At bottom though - just to pile it on the parents (and they no doubt were doing their best in difficult circumstances) - doesn’t her chronic need for attention indicate an early disturbance in care? What was going on in the Knox household in the early years?

Anyway - light relief:

From time to time, and for light entertainment, I go to Ground Report and read some of the comments. One things above all stands out, it’s always the same people (Or a close approximation since they change their names only to post the same thing.) Anyway what becomes very apparent is that they never read or post anywhere else. This form of insular behavior speaks volumes with regard to denial. In other words they exclude everything else and live in their close minded world of “Knox is innocent” etc; Any dissenting view at all, is instantly bombarded with comments as to the sanity of the dissenting person. In other words their xenophobia and paranoia know no bounds. Of course they accuse us of the same thing, little understanding that we talk to people in Italy who actually live and work in and around Parugia. Obviously they dare not venture too far away from Ground Report in case they are forced to have a change of heart or (God Forbid) they are wrong.

Today is Mothers day. Perhaps there should be a Harry Rag day as well? Anyway happy mothers day to everyone.
