So Many Millions Recognise That Meredith’s Qualities Were Very Special And Much Needed

[The 18th century Venetian composer Albinoni’s Adagio is added at the suggestion of main poster Earthling]

Today is the fourth anniversary of Meredith’s sad, inexplicable and totally unneccesary death.

Please click here for a collection of memorial videos that main posters and members really like. Several poems have arrived in the emails. We’d like to post these in Comments below, with any poems you might want to add and any links to further videos.

The things that we do know about Meredith are impressive, and they suggest that she was on a fast track to doing great things.  Her father John Kercher’s book to be called simply “Meredith” will be published next April.

This is from a previous post before the Hellman court reverted the situation to “sorry Meredith but we have no answers”.

Meredith really hit the ground running in Perugia. She had dreamed of it for a long time.

She bonded immediately with her two nice Italian flaltmates, who were both working in town, and soon with the neighbors downstairs. Within days she had an “instant crowd’ of the girls from Leeds and other UK universities.

She liked the house, liked the clubs, liked walking Perugia, liked the culture and the fun festivals in Perugia. Her first encounters with her new boyfriend downstairs, an Italian musician, were said to be shy and sweet.

And she was focussed and already working her tail off. She had won a well-funded Erasmus grant and although she wanted to work a little, she had no worries about money.

She arrived with an excellent command of Italian after two years of hard study at the European Studies school in Leeds, and at the Università  per Stranieri she was clearly going to excel.

She was also studying politics and economics at the main university, which was very close, and she seemed set to go very far. Her eyes were already set on the powerful international bodies in Brussels.

Judge Massei’s report is a brilliant piece of work by an amazing legal talent (Judge Massei is the top judge in Perugia and Umbria) and one gets the sense that he hit such a high plane as he was writing it as a tribute to Meredith. She deserved this, nothing less.

His report is now making many people say to themselves “how could this have happened?”

And also, what might have been”¦

I hope Meredith is at peace whereever she is. I hope   god grants strength to her family. I hope they read this board and realize that people all over the world are thinking of Meredith and will not forget her. I don’t have a poem of my own but I once read these lines in the context of another case and they stuck in my mind. Seems to be made for Meredith.

“Put your arms around her Lord,
Treat her with special care,
Make up for all she suffered
and all that seems so unfair”

Rest in peace Meredith.

********

Meredith, star of the sea,
Your becoming smile toys with our hearts,
Hopeless until we see your face.

You’re glowing, trembling,
Leaping with the starlight.
No caress calls you to greater love
Because you have it all now,
Have it all,
Sweeter than youth’s embrace
The stretching far ahead green fields of hope,
The unexpected arrival
Of foreverness.

You are bound for glory,
And in it and on the way,
Unfathomed by the crass mobs
Or any others who call your name,
Uncertain.
You assure them
There are grander causes
Than lost loves
And dredges in the sands of time.

Otherwise engaged, you
Are far above the clamor,
And leaping along a mountain
Of far greater joys.

Don’t assemble the foolish pride
Of the nations to relieve you.
They mean nothing
When you have it all beyond.

Lovely lilies burst
At the sight of someone
Far kinder and sweeter
In every regard.

Poem posted for Mara who emailed us this today.

*******

With memories of roman candles
Painted faces of vampires and ghosts
Still shining brightly in your mind
On All Soul’s Eve
You walked into
The lion’s den
The spider’s web
The serpent’s lair…

A fragile butterfly
They clipped your wings
And stole your beauty from this world
Strange twist of fate
That lures the innocent
Into the fangs of wolves
As angels cover their ears
And gods turn a blind eye…

Now all that is left
Is a smile that screams
That you were never meant to suffer
For where you walked
No shadow fell
And trees grow in your name there now
Memorials to your beauty and grace
They stretch their branches endlessly into the sky
And live through summers that were meant for you

You left behind a world in darkness
Guessing only at what your eyes last saw
Truth torn into a million puzzle pieces
That spell out the names but not the reason
Yet what reason could there be to kill a butterfly?

And what comfort could a sentence bring
When those who took your life
Cannot repay the world
For what it lost?

So butterfly, be safe, be free!
Fly far away from all this pain
May the eternal love of all who knew you
Heal your battered wings
And let you soar
Into the sky

“ ... non lo sapevi che c’era la morte
quel giorno che ti aspettava.

Non lo sapevi che c’era la morte
quando si è giovani è strano
poter pensare che la nostra sorte
venga e ci prenda per mano.

...

Vorrei sapere a che cosa è servito
vivere amare e soffrire
spendere tutti i tuoi giorni passati
se presto hai dovuto partire.

Voglio però ricordarti com’eri
pensare che ancora vivi
voglio pensare che ancora mi ascolti
e che come allora sorridi.”

Gone Too Soon

Like a comet
Blazing ‘cross the evening sky
Gone too soon

Like a rainbow
Fading in the twinkling of an eye
Gone too soon

Shiny and sparkly
And splendidly bright
Here one day
Gone one night

Like the loss of sunlight
On a cloudy afternoon
Gone too soon

Like a castle
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/m/michael-jackson-lyrics/gone-too-soon-lyrics.html ]
Built upon a sandy beach
Gone too soon

Like a perfect flower
That is just beyond your reach
Gone too soon

Born to amuse, to inspire, to delight
Here one day
Gone one night

Like a sunset
Dying with the rising of the moon
Gone too soon
Gone too soon

The more I read about Meredith the more I admire her. She really was an amazing person and although her life was short, she was lucky to have such a loving family, and to be blessed with such a good nature that she has left an imovable mark on this world. What do we all hope for in life? We can only ask that we can be happy. That we can make others happy. And that we can leave something that others can remember us by in the best possible way ..... by making a difference.

Meredith accomplished all of these things.

R.I.P Meredith. Sleep well, and know that not only will you have your day of justice, but your memory, and your name, will go on long after we are all gone.

God bless. xx

Thanks to everyone here for the comments and verses. Especially in light of the recent verdict, I feel so much for this family. Kcisboy, you are so right. In her short life, she accomplished all that any of us can hope for.

I wish Meredith’s family love, support, comfort, and peace.

In memory of Meredith, I’d like to include a link to one of my favorite pieces, Albinoni’s Adagio, accompanied by a beautiful montage of candles [added at top]

Hi Spencer. Yes we intend to repost that.

The last para mentions the creation of the new trust fund to help advance the case and maybe others similar down the road. The Italian system is heavily loaded against the Kerchers. The only two things going for them are

(1) determined prosecutors who are taking a lot of lying ad hominem attacks from on-the-make carpetbaggers like Doug Preston and Steve Moore and Bruce Fischer (all orchestrated we are told with convincing proof by David Marriott); and

(2) their own lawyers in the court - for which they have always had to pay full fees. http://tinyurl.com/3ee5sxv

Our Italian lawyers tell us that the making of successful appeals before the Supreme Court requires a special kind of legal background and talent. Great though he has been, that has not been Francesco Maresca’s turf.

Truly beautiful poems.

RIP Meredith; I lit a candle for you today.

Hi Peter, will they get a new lawyer do you think? I’d imagine Maresca would hate to let go - hopefully he’ll stay on in a consultative capacity.

Posted by Melanie on 11/02/11 at 12:31 PM | #

Hi Melanie. Yes Maresca does know the case and is very invested. This could be like the British system where a QC comes on board and is briefed by the first lawyer. Additional cost at a time in life when their earning powers are not great and they have resisted taking freebies from anyone.

Signs the groupies are losing interest in what is proving a boring and inaccessible AK by the way. Their websites are steadily losing readership since a peak just after the verdict. Those remaining may get more shrill (as on Amazon) but shrill rarely persuades many people.

That’s is all good news Peter. I would be very interested in making a donation to any fund that might be set up. Still annoyed with myself for not lighting that candle last night! I was thinking about her all evening and she was my first thought this morning.

Posted by Melanie on 11/02/11 at 03:14 PM | #

Hi Peter.

This is quite disappointing - but I am not surprised.  I hope the Prosecution put together just what is needed for Cassation.

Please keep us posted about ways to contribute to the fund.

Thanks for the video suggestion Sian. The Janine Jansen version of Lark Ascending is added. Very nice. For now It’s the third one down on the memorial video page.

Yes, thank you, Sian, for the Lark Ascending music/video. I have always loved that music. In fact, it takes me back to my college years and reminds me of my sister, who played it on the stereo all the time! Quite appropriate and beautiful, thanks.

After a long day driving interstate and state roads, I returned home to find TJMK’s and PMF’s memorials to Meredith. I felt I’d missed an anointed worship service.

So many good things:
Stephanie’s moving letter (her depiction of Meredith’s face at final viewing was powerful)
White roses
Angelic adagio earthling
Music videos (Ave Maria, Amazing Grace sacred harp)
Mara’s poem (line about trees whose branches see the seasons meant for Mez—and butterfly images, glorious ending of love heals wings)
ncountryside Italian poem, stately
“Gone Too Soon”—such very beautiful images
Rare photos of Meredith and Stephanie together
Many respectful comments moving and sincere

And good news of a Trust Fund to aid legal expenses for the appeal or others

This is just the tip of the iceberg of the outpourings in many forms for Meredith. Thank you to all and everyone who added to her day of remembrance.

Off topic question:

Do we know if the appeal verdict was reached unanimously? I couldn’t find any information on that.

Thanks in advance!
