My Poem For Meredith

Posted by Hopeful

For Meredith. Accompanied above by a re-post of this hauntingly beautiful video of Perugia in the mist. It seems to have stirred as many emotions as anything on the site.

Meredith’s Poem My life was bright and right, But not for long. I whisper in God’s ear, Justice, take care of me. He said, “The greatest man Who lived, died at 33.” I had more smiles than tears, Something few can say After they’ve lived many years. It’s good to be far away From petty envy and pain, Fear and deceit and greed. Here I am always at peace. My energies find release. I’m active and loved and warm. I sing and dance with many. I am glad beyond belief, Smiling and they are smiling. We burn like the sun with joy. We dance, create, and sing. We do a thousand times more Than our earth life used to bring. We create worlds of our own. God is not jealous of us. We praise the One we love Who planned for everything. I whisper in His ear, “What of my murderers’ plight?” He says, “Will not the judge Of all the earth do right?”

Hopeful, there is so much peace and even joy in your poem, it helps seeing beautiful Meredith beautiful for ever, a light for her family in grief. I hope they’ll see it, I hope it will bring a serene feeling in their lives!

Beautiful poem, Hopeful.  The first and last stanzas, especially, really got to me.  It is true, no matter what happens with these appeals and court decisions, God knows everything that happened that night and He will bring Justice for Meredith…it may not be in a way we expect, but justice is always done.  There are no tears or sadness in Heaven- only joy what a beautiful thing!

Thank you Hopeful—what a wonderful poem. I love the calm and peace it portrays. I especially love these three lines, which seem so true for Meredith:

I had more smiles than tears,
Something few can say
After they’ve lived many years.

I also love this stanza:

I’m active and loved and warm.
I sing and dance with many.
I am glad beyond belief,
Smiling and they are smiling.

...because she seemed to always be smiling. Well, OK, I love the whole poem but I won’t re-quote it all! LOL.

The images and music bring such peace as well. One imagines Meredith of a morning, walking to class and witnessing many scenes like this. I especially like the vision of bus headlights in the fog—there’s something comforting about that.

Thanks again Hopeful. A beautiful tribute to Meredith.

Beautiful, beautiful poem Hopeful! Just like Meredith herself.

I especially like the ending:

I whisper in His ear,
“What of my murderers’ plight?”
He says, “Will not the judge
Of all the earth do right?”

Thank you for sharing this poem!
