Meredith’s Perugia #26: Florence, A Very Pretty One Hour Train Ride To The North
Posted by Peter Quennell
Italy seems to have more of these high-quality, lovingly created videos online than any other country in the world. These videos show the true face of Italy, one of the gentler, more welcoming places on earth.
You might like to watch the previous videos. Perugia itself comes across really well, as do Rome, Venice, Naples, and the Italian Riviera. Real surprises even for us have been Sicily, and the extreme south-east.
To our knowledge, all of these places except for Rome and of course Perugia still lay ahead for Meredith. They do hammer home the effect of a fine life so stupidly cut short.

Some great shots of Florence, there. Clearly, the first video was taken in the early morning. The only problem with Florence is the number of tourists. In summer it is PACKED, which is to the detriment of the beauty. And as someone who doesn’t work well with crowds, my visit wasn’t a lot of fun. But being a London girl, Meredith would have been used to crowds, and I’m sure she would have adored Florence.

Florence, I visited in 1984. The old bridge known as Ponte Vecchio is famous. The city center was nice and flat, easy to walk in. This video makes me want to return and see it with fresh eyes.
