Meredith’s Europe #3: The City Of Brussels Where She Was Eager To Start Work
Posted by Peter Quennell
In June of last year Meredith’s father John divulged that she had set her professional sites on the international institutions in this fine city.
She would have concluded her stay in Perugia in summer of 2008 and graduated from Leeds in summer of 2009. So right now she’d either be at the end of her first year of postgraduate studies or at the end of her first year living here.
Such a vibrant city. Such an enviable life.

Brussels is an amazing city - a place where so many people meet, it is a real hub. And of course, with the Eurostar running out of Kings Cross St Pancras (train station in Central London), Brussels is probably three hours or so from Croydon - much faster than any plane journey - Croydon, just south of London, being, of course, Meredith’s family’s home.
Never coming home, never coming home sob
My brother and his wife went to Brussels (or somewhere in Belgium, anyway) for one of his wife’s dozens of nephews’ weddings. They both loved it there. I wouldn’t be surprised if they retired there. 😊
Meredith would probably have fit right in; with her love of languages, she would have probably picked up the language right away. If I ever go there, I’ll imagine her at the next table, sipping latte. 😊
