Der Spiegel Reporting Meredith’s Father Is Writing A Book To Cover Their Considerable Costs

Posted by Peter Quennell

We knew that a book by Meredith’s father John is in the works. We did not know the real reason why.

This news is frankly pretty heartbreaking.

Alexander Smoltczyk in Perugia reports on the health and financial hurt descended upon Meredith’s family..

The announcement of the verdict is expected at the end of this week, after a long trial that has taken its toll on everyone involved, not just the defendants….

Kercher’s mother only manages to cope by taking psychiatric medication, while her husband, a journalist, has been forced to write a book about the case to cover their legal fees.

The publishers’ grapevine has been hinting in fact that the book will be all about Meredith.

Meredith’s family have said through their lawyer that they expect never to see any financial return from the financial awards made by the Italian court against those who are found guilty.

Multi-million-dollar awards are common now in the US and Europe if there is a danger of profiteering from inside a prison cell. And in Italy, those sitting in prison cells often get easy access to the media.

Many of us here - many readers too - have long wanted to organize something financial for Meredith’s memory and for her family by way of this website for Meredith. Maybe now is a good time to begin.

Mind you, if the book IS all about Meredith this could be truly huge. Pent-up demand to find out more about Meredith, which we encounter every day, is now really enormous.

After being overshadowed for so long by obnoxious others, Meredith deserves her day in the sun.

An interesting quote from the article linked to above:  “In an interview on US television, Knox’s father said he believes Amanda will be home by Christmas. Few people would share his view. “

Few people indeed!  Not only does my heart ache for the pain and suffering of the Kercher family, but my blood boils when I think about the devastation ak, rs and rg have wreaked on this family.

Knox and her family and pr machine have continued to add insult to injury with their insensitive comments.  I would love to contribute to help the Kerchers and hope that there will be an easy online site to do so.

I am confident people world-wide would also like to help this wonderful family.

OK. Let me get this straight.

The Knox family wants their daughter back. They want her back for Christmas. They love her. They are trying to look on the positive side. What is insensitive about that? They have expressed their grief for the Kerchers. What they have endured is more than tragic.

The accusations of PR Machine are nonsense. This family is grieving too and they are fighting for their child. If you are a parent you would understand this.  I wonder what people will say when the Knoxes try to write a book? They will be condemned of course.

It’s only tragic for the Knox family if Amanda is found to be innocent, which may very well not be the case. There has been a PR machine in force, ever since there seemed to be a need to counter the bad publicity that Amanda has endured.

Both Amanda and her family have been less than co-operative or respectful of the court process. Only now, Amanda wears sober clothing and nods to the jury, only because the stakes are so high. Amanda’s family could have been far more tactful and listened to their lawyers about not grandstanding with a PR machine.

The Kerchers have kept a dignified silence - which is what both sides should have done - out of respect for the process of law and for the sad demise of Meredith.

Knox’s family have been less than impressive as a unit and come across as attention seeking. Whilst it’s true that they would want the best for Amanda, Amanda’s behaviour throughout has been suspect and her family haven’t done her any favours.

Most people on trial don’t need a PR machine and if she was so innocent, why the catalogue of lies, including framing her former employer? No amount of spin can counteract the truth.

Let her lawyers deal with that, not a bunch of ex-journalists reframing her character as one of virtue.

Besides the obvious Kendall: Amanda is still alive. Along with all the facts stated by Compboy. Knox’s family have been less than gracious throughout the whole process. Condemned? Doubtful but, I am sure many people would not stand in line to buy their “fantasy” account of the whole sordid mess.

To Kendall:
“They have expressed their grief for the Kerchers. “
So far it hasn’t happened. More than 2 years wasn’t enough for that. They are waiting for the end of the trial, that’s what I heard so far.

The love of a parent for their child, can anything compare? No father should have to bury a child. I sincerely hope Meredith’s parents find peace.

Yes Kendall, I know that the Knoxes are suffering too, and it is only normal that they want their daughter back and their lives to resume. It will not be easy, whatever the outcome.

But they know about the lies, they know that they are questions they did not receive a logical answer. They know Amanda is not exactly what they claimed her to be. I am sure they did not expect these details about her private life to ever be true. Even if they will not say so, they KNOW. Therefore, they really should NOT write a book full of new lies. They should keep silent and try to be forgotten. Have some decency at least not to add lies to the lies and the big show.

That is very heartbreaking news indeed. I wish that there was something that could be given back to the Kercher family for what they have lost and the toll that all of this has taken on them. I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like.

Yes it’s true Kendall, the Knox family are in a tragic situation, it is an objective fact which to me it means I am not in a position to judge them.

But the Knox and Sollecito families have also adopted a defensive strategy based on defamation against other people, they put forward incriminating or conspirational theories, false information, this is also an objective fact.

All this brings in as an obvious consequence that others attack the Knox family, in order to defend themselves or to defend information or institutions in which they believe.

Both sides have suffered unimaginable emotional and financial devastation.  Both sides have lost their daughters and that’s where the similarities stop.

If John Kercher does write a book about Meredith, I would expect it to be as dignified and respectful as the Kercher’s have been through-out this ordeal.  John, being a journalist, would write his own, not relying on a co-author. It would be a difficult undertaking, but I think it could help the Kercher’s remember all the little things that made Meredith who she was.  Meredith truly seemed like a wonderful, considerate, caring person.  No need to embellish the stories on her! There will be plenty of books about the murder and trial, so I doubt he would write much on that aspect.

I just hope he writes the book because he wants to tell the world about Meredith and not solely because of the financial strain from the last 2 years.

Now, if Amanda’s family writes a book, I would imagine someone else would do the writing.  They would show all the little things about Amanda, but they would need to leave out her sexual habits, drinking, smoking pot, and hashish! They may have a hard time writing the book when they look back at her childhood and start blaming themselves for the way she turned out. I think the majority of their book would be about the injustice done to Amanda, whether she is found guilty or not!  There would be quite a bit of whining, mud-slinging, and denial of facts. They had better be careful to avoid more slander charges against them.

Anyone can empathise with the suffering of a parent who has lost a child for ever, even more so if that child has died an untimely death, for what parents ever contemplate having a child predecease them?

How much more do our hearts go out to the Kercher family whose daughter was cruelly and senselessly done to death, far from home, by wicked, cruel and immoral sadists?

I could feel cosiderable sympathy with Knox’s parents if they had behaved with some modicum of common sense and decorum, attempting to manage their daughter’s predicament by following the advice of people a little more knowledgeable than they are themselves.

Instead they have paraded themselves and their other children in a vulgar publicity campaign to smear the Italian justice system, and anyone they perceive as getting in their way.

They truly epitomise the very worst of facile and superficial American popularist chauvinism.  They have done nothing but harm to their daughter’s chances of minimising the dire results of her own actions.

Any book they may seek to write would no doubt be ghosted by some of their unsavoury hangers-on. One can only imagine the lies and distortions which would result from such a publication.

One can only pity them for the mistaken path they have followed, no doubt influenced by others who see this tragedy as a financial opportunity for themselves.

True Justice is coming.

Putting Amanda and Rafaelle in jail for life is True Justice for Meredith.  Let’s honor Meredith by putting them away at all costs. It doesn’t matter if there is a bad case against them.

I’m sure that’s what Meredith would have wanted.

Look at this article! It also points to an interesting tactic used by Sollecito’s lawyer!

curtperon,

Do you work for the Perugia Police Department?

“Let’s honor Meredith by putting them away AT ALL COSTS. It doesn’t matter if there is a bad case against them.”

There are a few articles in the Italian newspapers relating to the final declarations by Amanda and Raffaele.

This one is from Il Giornale, the newspaper owned by Berlusconi. Judging from the comments of some of the readers I’d say that most Italians tend to believe they’re guilty.

Usually Berlusconi’s fans tend to be very negative and often criticize Italian magistrates and the Italian justice system (since they always try to prosecute their idol Silvio) but apparently even they seem to think the two are guilty.
