Carlo Dalla Vedova: Is ECHR Advised You Condoned Malicious Defamation By Knox Of Chief Prosecutor?

Posted by Our Main Posters

Carlo Dalla Vedova,

You are trying to make the ECHR believe that while Knox may have lied to the police it was only under immense illegal pressure.

Really?!  In effect your case is that Knox only lies and defames under extreme pressure?

Knox and her agent and her publishers all claim you okayed the Knox book Waiting To Be Heard before publication. If you had advised otherwise the book would never have been published.

Under our own analysis that book includes perhaps 600 lies and 100 defamations by Knox, written when she was under no pressure at all and seemingly simply intent on damaging people.

You provided the go-ahead for the book to be published in the 2013 hardcover and again, unrevised but with an addition, in the 2015 softcover. And those 600 and 100 are only the lies and defamations in the book. Knox is on record for numerous others.

Here is one of the most dangerous and destructive lies by Amanda Knox in that book.

As you know Dr Mignini was not even at the central police station when Amanda Knox was sitting with Rita Ficarra quite voluntarily building a list which you wrongly describe to the ECHR as an interrogation.

Days and days of trial testimony by all who actually were there on the night - which you and Knox both sat through - proved that Dr Mignini only saw Knox much later, to read her her rights and then be subjected to her beating his ear about Patrick.  Knox finished the written statement she insisted upon at 5:45 am.

Knox here is claiming in her book written under zero pressure that Dr Mignini conducted a highly illegal interrogation - in effect he committed crimes which could destroy his career and perhaps even put him in prison -when in fact he was at home in bed at the time.

This is the spurious Knox claim about Dr Mignini in English. An Italian translation is at the bottom.

[This is a partial description of Knox’s voluntary discussion with Rita Ficarra concluding 12:45 am. Dr Mignini was at home in bed at the time.]
Eventually they told me the pubblico ministero would be coming in.
I didn’t know this translated as prosecutor, or that this was the magistrate that Rita Ficarra had been referring to a few days earlier when she said they’d have to wait to see what he said, to see if I could go to Germany.
I thought the “public minister” was the mayor or someone in a similarly high “public” position in the town and that somehow he would help me.
They said, “You need to talk to the pubblico ministero about what you remember.”
I told them, “I don’t feel like this is remembering. I’m really confused right now.” I even told them, “I don’t remember this. I can imagine this happening, and I’m not sure if it’s a memory or if I’m making this up, but this is what’s coming to mind and I don’t know. I just don’t know.”
They said, “Your memories will come back. It’s the truth. Just wait and your memories will come back.”
The pubblico ministero came in.
Before he started questioning me, I said, “Look, I’m really confused, and I don’t know what I’m remembering, and it doesn’t seem right.”
One of the other police officers said, “We’ll work through it.”
Despite the emotional sieve I’d just been squeezed through, it occurred to me that I was a witness and this was official testimony, that maybe I should have a lawyer. “Do I need a lawyer?” I asked.
He said, “No, no, that will only make it worse. It will make it seem like you don’t want to help us.”
It was a much more solemn, official affair than my earlier questioning had been, though the pubblico ministero was asking me the same questions as before: “What happened? What did you see?”
I said, “I didn’t see anything.”
“What do you mean you didn’t see anything? When did you meet him?”
“I don’t know,” I said.
“Where did you meet him?”
“I think by the basketball court.” I had imagined the basketball court in Piazza Grimana, just across the street from the University for Foreigners.
“I have an image of the basketball court in Piazza Grimana near my house.”
“What was he wearing?”
“I don’t know.”
“Was he wearing a jacket?”
“I think so.”
“What color was it?”
“I think it was brown.”
“What did he do?”
“I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
“I’m confused!”
“Are you scared of him?”
“I guess.”
I felt as if I were almost in a trance. The pubblico ministero led me through the scenario, and I meekly agreed to his suggestions.
“This is what happened, right? You met him?”
“I guess so.”
“Where did you meet?”
“I don’t know. I guess at the basketball court.”
“You went to the house?”
“I guess so.”
“Was Meredith in the house?”
“I don’t remember.”
“Did Patrick go in there?”
“I don’t know, I guess so.”
“Where were you?”
“I don’t know. I guess in the kitchen.”
“Did you hear Meredith screaming?”
“I don’t know.”
“How could you not hear Meredith screaming?”
“I don’t know. Maybe I covered my ears. I don’t know, I don’t know if I’m just imagining this. I’m trying to remember, and you’re telling me I need to remember, but I don’t know. This doesn’t feel right.”
He said, “No, remember. Remember what happened.”
“I don’t know.”
At that moment, with the pubblico ministero raining questions down on me, I covered my ears so I could drown him out.
He said, “Did you hear her scream?”
I said, “I think so.”
My account was written up in Italian and he said, “This is what we wrote down. Sign it.”

And here is the same spurious Knox claim about Dr Mignini in Italian.

Davvero non so.”
Dissero, “I tuoi ricordi torneranno.
Cosa hai visto?”
Dissi, “Non ho visto niente.”
“Cosa intendi dire con non ho visto niente? Quando l’hai incontrato?”
“Non so,” dissi.
“Dove l’hai incontrato?”
“Al campo da basket, credo.” Avevo immaginato il campo da basket a Piazza Grimana, proprio al di là  della strada dall’ Università  per Stranieri.
“Ho un’immagine del campo da basket a Piazza Grimana, vicino casa mia.”
“Cosa indossava?”
“Non so.”
“Indossava una giacca?”
“Credo di si.”
“Di che colore era?”
“Credo che fosse marrone.”
“Cosa ha fatto?”
“Non lo so.”
“Cosa vuol dire che non lo sai?”
“Sono confusa!”
“Hai paura di lui?”
“Suppongo.”
Mi sembrava di essere quasi in trance. Il pubblico ministero mi guidò in uno scenario e io concordai docilmente con i suoi suggerimenti.
“E’ successo questo, giusto? Lo hai incontrato?”
“Suppongo di si.”
“Dove lo hai incontrato?”
“Non lo so. Al campo da basket, suppongo.”
“Siete andati a casa?”
“Credo di si.”
“Meredith era casa?”
“Non ricordo.”
“Patrick é entrato?”
“Non so, crdo di si.”
“Dove vi trovavate?”
“Non lo so. Nella cucina, suppongo.”
“Hai sentito Meredith urlare?”
“Non lo so.”
“Come potevi non sentire Meredith urlare?”
“Non lo so. Forse mi sono coperta le orecchie. Non lo so, non so se mi sto solo immaginando tutto. Sto cercando di ricordare e voi mi dite che devo ricordare, ma non lo so. Non mi sembra che sia la cosa giusta.”
Disse, “No, ricorda. Ricorda cosa é successo.”
“Non lo so.”
In quel momento, mentre il pubblico ministero mi tempestava di domande, mi coprii le orecchie, così da non sentirlo.
Disse, “L’hai sentita urlare?”
Dissi, “Credo di si.”
La mia dichiarazione era scritta in italiano e lui mi disse, “Questo é quello che abbiamo messo a verbale. Firmalo.”

The claim of Knox against Dr. Mignini is a clear and malicious fabrication. How can she remember everything verbatim when she is concocting her spurious book with her ghost writer - when she couldn’t really remember where she was the night of the murder, didn’t know the difference between dream like visions and reality and saw Patrick in “flashes of blurred images” ?
What absolute nonsense.

Carlo Dalla Vedova is no different.
He is just Carlo Dalla Vedova being Carlo Dalla Vedova. A professional liar whose stance regarding the ridiculous ECHR claim is no different from the stance he took during his clients murder trial, a weasely and dishonest one.

I’m not really sure how much this will come into play but Knox was breaking Italian law by working on a student visa. So would that not classify her as an “illegal immigrant” and, therefore, remove her human rights altogether? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the last time I checked, in most developed countries, criminals who are engaged in committing crimes do not have human rights. Thank you.

If only it were possible to take back words!

It’s hilarious watching this woman trying to make history by doing the impossible.  If only she could wind back time, we’d find that actually, it was Mignini who did it!

Just to keep things in perspective. Here is a list

Amanda Knox
Aileen Wournos
Karla Homolka
Myra Hindley
Elizabeth Bathory
Kristen Gilbert
Christine Paolilla

This handy dandy list is a reminder that as long as it takes Knox will always be guilty and that eventually justice will be served.

Posted by Grahame Rhodes on 05/26/16 at 06:40 PM | #

Thank you for that list Mr. Rhodes. You may want to include Casey Anthony to it as well as her lawyer just denied having sex for legal services with her but admitted that she killed her daughter:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/05/26/casey-anthonys-attorney-threatens-to-sue-over-claims-sex-daughters-death.html

so the question now is can her case be reopened? Maybe. And hopefully, it will be and she’ll go to prison for the rest of her life.

As for Knox’s ECHR shenanigans, perhaps someone in Germany is working behind the scenes with the Italian judiciary in a way as to “suddenly discover” new evidence against her in her murder trial. For sure they are going through all the evidence of the entire case. And they will not overlook a single page. I think that Knox was very incredibly stupid to file this claim. I’m sure she is regretting it now as the possible blow back could incarcerate her!

Well, it doesn’t happen often, but I’ve been told that under Italian law with the discovery of new evidence, they can reopen previously closed cases regardless of the previous verdicts rendered. If they can get her imprisoned would be another battle altogether, but to get her convicted may be enough shut her up forever. All the Europeans all see her doing her innocence project fraud games over here so if they can convict her one more time, that will close all of that down full stop and she will go down in history as a convicted murderer.

She was previously convicted for capital murder and sexual assault twice and the findings in the Supreme Court’s final motivation report put her at the murder scene when it happened and show that she assisted Rudy Guede. That’s guilt for murder or accessory to murder for all common law courts in the world. The ECHR must be aware of those facts.

@Johnny Yen: well there were at least three of them.  All it takes is one to fess up,or top themself, leaving a suicide note ‘telling all’.

@Grahame Rhodes: the interesting thing about yourlist is that they were almost all pyschopaths.  What interests me is the genetic element.  Aileen Wuornos’ father was a career criminal and repeat offender, who topped himself.  Aileen was giving all the boys at school her favours from age 11 onwards.

According to author Andrew Hodges, Curt was an adopted child.  Who knows what lies in his genes?  Insanity?  Depravity?  Criminal tendencies?  We sense even Edda knows her daughter is not quite normal.

Just a thought.  Opinion only.

Thank you Jane. Interesting point about the anti-social genetic factor in the Knox family line. if you look at this not so friendly family photo here:

we see Trashley on the left flipping us off with her two middle fingers and a mentally ill death stare that screams genetic mutation. This is the background image now proudly emblazoned on Amanda Knox’s twitter home page:

Indeed, the apples don’t fall far from the tree.

@ Johnny Yen. How disgusting.

Perhaps it should be AK who has her hands over her ears?
Regarding her family and especially her mother, of course they know she murdered Meredith Kercher. In my opinion it goes without saying amongst them now.

During her trial I found the contrast between Knox and her mother bizarre.
Knox is appearing in court, on trial for murder - laughing, grinning, smiling cheshire cat smiles at everyone and the cameras, flirting with her lawyers - generally having a good time and enjoying being in the limelight.

In contrast and at the same time Edda Mellas was crying on queue for the cameras, blubbing at every given opportunity. Some naive people where taken in by this behaviour and fell for it hook line and sinker.

Who was she crying for? certainly not the savagely murdered victim. Oh no, not that pesky blight on their lives.
She was blubbing for herself and her seriously mentally ill daughter - the monster she created.
She knew then, she knows now, they all do. To me it is obvious and a thing they can’t collectively hide.
As in the awful photo you just linked to, it is a game to them.
However in my opinion it is just a matter of time before at least one of them slips up massively.

Posted by Deathfish on 05/27/16 at 11:42 PM | #

Thank you Deathfish. I agree 100%. Here is her latest quote to the press from just the other day, which IMHO appears to be a near confession to the murder:

“I regret that Rudy Guede has never regretted it [the murder] and I hope that those who granted him permission [to leave jail] did it for social reintegration.”

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3606549/Meredith-Kercher-s-convicted-killer-FREED-prison-36-hours-good-behaviour-16-year-jail-sentence.html

Did she just say “I regret doing the murder with Guede?” Read it again, that may be exactly what she meant! Either way, I guess the blood money must really be gone now and she can’t afford Marriott to stand in front of her anymore. And just as you said, one of them will accidentally admit to it all very soon.

Posted by Johnny Yen on 05/28/16 at 10:26 AM | #

The snag with that interpretation is that the quote wasn’t from Knox, but from Sollecito.

I’m not going to soil my eyes with the Daily Mail article, but the Independent (who I think were the first with the story in Britain, and probably where the Fail picked it up from) correctly credited the quote to La Repubblica - but La Repubblica accurately attributed the quote to Sollecito.

Hey, who cares - saying Knox said this makes a better story - (although I doubt that she understands the words social reintegration).

Posted by Sallyoo on 05/28/16 at 11:57 AM | #

Thank you for clearing that up Sallyoo.

Posted by Johnny Yen on 05/28/16 at 03:51 PM | #

So Sollecito has some kind of “regret” about the murder which tells us that he was involved in it as everyone in the entire world already knew. And he is now about to sue Italy for wrongful imprisonment and go back to yet another court and keep on talking and testifying in said court. Nice!

Are these criminal felons really that stupid or are they just acting this way?

Posted by Johnny Yen on 05/28/16 at 04:04 PM | #

Yes who cares.
It was a attributed to Knox in the Daily Mail, I cannot speak Italian nor do I read La Republica.
A lot of people do not read biased bleeding heart liberal newspapers like the independent, which is on its last legs for that very reason. I see Rocco Sollecito has just been murdered in a mafia hit but I shall have to check if it is true because that was in the Mail too.

@TJMK Main Posters, The excerpt from Knox’s vague book shows it is 80% lies and deception. He wasn’t even there! On top of that she has invented a full dialogue between herself quivering at the hands of a duplicitous Mignini who had no respect for the truth when she is the one who has no respect for the truth. This entire book called “Waiting To Be Heard” (title is also a lie) is how she stands the truth on its head as she likes to do.

She suggests that Mignini lacked logic and somehow mesmerized her into saying crazy stuff which he then twisted even further in some vast indifference to the truth. She implies that as long as he could get Knox to sign a statement, he didn’t care what was in it. Further, she pretends that Mignini forced her to say or confirm his own misguided words and was witless as The Red Queen in “off with her head!” from Alice in Wonderland. Knox is the liar, and was the one spouting nonsense to cover a crime. She was shaking in her boots for a reason: guilt guilt and more guilt.

Contrary to Knox’s rustic book, the real truth is, Mignini knew Knox was lying to him like most perps. She was giving all her interrogators the typical perp fog, unable to recall anything, then using the “maybe”, then the imaginings, then the “I don’t knows,” then the “I don’t remembers”, all very predictable stonewalling. She is a born liar, and begged her boyfriend to lie, too. Although I doubt that was too difficult for Sollecito either. He is doing a great deal of it nowadays. He tried to get an American girl to marry him for a green card (was her name Casey?)but she saw his con. Then he broke up with Miss Greta Maldonado, the airline hostess.

Knox went on to say she couldn’t separate fact from fantasy. She told Mignini she didn’t know if she was just imagining things. But of course it was his fault that she couldn’t tell the truth. It was the honest magistrate’s fault she lapsed into lies and fantasies and blamed the questioner for her illusions! Rich.

She said she didn’t even remember WHERE she was on the night of the murder. Can you believe that? No way.

Later that changed and she recalled she was firmly at her boyfriend’s place all night long when that became helpful to her.

Mignini saw she was frightened to death but was lying her head off. She is hardly his first lying scumbag to come before the judge.

Knox is a total liar, always has been and always will be. Rudy may possibly surpass her, but barely. Her closet is full of masks and she wears a new one every day or every hour as needed.

Mignini took her measure. A few days later he took her back to the cottage and watched her have a meltdown in the kitchen with her whole body shaking and her knees knocking. She had a little panic attack as she looked into the knife drawer. She wiggled out of that one with her convenient flood of tears as she did once before when questioned by Mignini.

Knox’s not so original and earthshatteringly brilliant strategy: When lies fail, turn on the waterworks and sob.

So obvious. Her entire book is one falsehood after another with a few grains of truth thrown in to keep her supporters justifying her.

Carlo dalla Vedova must be so ashamed of her and perhaps of himself. Lose-lose scenario for him dealing with Knox.

Different topic:

If Rudy’s three day pass was prematurely announced and then delayed, I feel sorry for him because it’s wrong to tantalize any prisoner with that kind of hope and then remove it. It seems cruel, however unintended.

Very good question Mr. Rhodes. If Guede officially claims that he definitely saw Knox and Sollecito kill Meredith I think that would have to reopen their trial again. I have not heard about this new development, but I will ask around and report back soon.

Phew! Finally, home - in a rental - after this orphaned base of a street light in a freeway reststop parking area took out my radiator, etc etc etc. Could be worse, I’ve never been in a car accident where anyone was hurt, though I was twice in aircraft which landed with the wheels not fully down. THAT was a thrill. Anyone else? I’m headed out to find a new car.

Wonderful. Let’s go. As far as Knox is concerned she must be aware that we are watching her every move. There is no escape for her because the tide of public hate and vilification will only increase until she finally breaks down and admits the truth. She is done and dusted and the Meredith and her family will find peace after the bitch goes down.

Meanwhile over at Knox Central, everyone’s favourite killer is preparing to be photographed by the world renowned Dawndra Budd (nope, me neither!). The aim, according to Knox’s wonderful artistic input and insight, is to present to the world a set of pictures that reject the “flawed myth” of her as a two faced horror show. Good luck with that!

I checked Dawndra out and she has 28 Twitter followers and a grand total of just over 4,000 Facebook likes for her world changing work. In fairness, some of her pictures do look good but she’s strictly small fry, local to Seattle, where doubtless she’s one of hundreds of similar jobbing photographers trying to eke out a living. Similar to Knox with her literary efforts although Dawndra does seem at least to have a flair for her chosen profession, unlike Knox.

The trouble is Amanda, no matter what clever contortions you put that used and abused old hooker’s body of yours into, no photographer can change those eyes of yours. Empty, lifeless sinkholes that truly do provide a window into your black soul.

I’m sure the results will be altered to cover up your herpes scars and the swiftly and prematurely ageing look on your ever more Edda like face and fast thickening body but, short of coloured contact lenses, your zombie soul will be on display for all to see via your eyes. Even the lenses wouldn’t work as you have the least expressive eyes I’ve ever seen. Malevolence burns from within them in a cold, dark flame.

Personally, I can’t wait to see the results. I imagine a set of pictures similar to those in The Omen where satanic forebodings of untimely and grisly deaths appear on the developed images. In fairness, this is my best truth and the best I could think up on the hoof. I’ll change my mind tomorrow and point to my black neighbour and claim he did it. In the library with the lead pipe. Or something like that.

Forgive the flippant humour, I lapsed into full Cluedo by the end there!

The other interesting thing in Knox’s latest piece of drivel is her musings on Madison. Very much relating to past adventures when Madison photographed Knox in a variety of poses and locations.

It’s written in such a blatantly nostalgic way that it’s clear this is an attempt to reach out to her erstwhile friend by trying to tug at her heartstrings.

She’s almost pleading “look, didn’t we have a great time together; why are you letting one little gruesome murder and my fitting up of an innocent man get in the way of our relationship?”.

Methinks young Madison is sufficiently awake these days not to fall for Knox’s parlour games.

Knox seems ever more tortured. That’s a real shame….......

Hi everyone. As per per your request. Here is the best truth I can think.

@davidmulhern, I agree after reading Knox’s West Seattle Herald piece about photographer Dawndra Budd. Knox does seem to be yearning for the past photo sessions with Madison, the costumes, the storytelling in pictures that Madison tried to create with Knox of course the central figure. Now she wants to get her face back in front of a camera. This time it is Miss Dawndra Budd’s. No doubt Miss Budd’s single women appeal to Knox, the lonely woman against the world. Pictured against dark blue-gray seascapes. Knox mentions her fear of drowning.

She meets Miss Budd at Admiral Byrd’s eatery to discuss the process and vision. Birds of a feather. Then Knox emails Miss Budd that she wants to debunk the myth of she-devil, two-faced witch, succubus, wolf in sheep’s clothing that she was called in the media. However, I think Knox would rather relive it, and felt flattered by such terms of power and relevance, now fading as she feels perhaps.

Knox describes Miss Budd the photographer as a smiling “Morgan le Fay”. Omigosh, the irony.

I think Knox shares the same vision as Dawndra Budd, whose work echoes some of Knox’s dark images in H.O.T. video. I think she sees herself as a twin of Miss Budd and both of them as Morgan le Fay.

Morgan le Fay was a witch, a sorceress, the enemy of all virtue and of King Arthur and his queen. She tried to destroy the knights of the Round Table. She caused Arthur’s death by stealing the scabbard of Excalibur his sword while he slept. Without its magic protection, he was wounded in battle by his own son, Mordred.

Morgan le Fay was an enchantress. 12th century German knight and poet Hartmann von Aue described her as a “mistress of dark magic who lived her life in defiance of God.”

Morgan le Fay was capable of turning people to animals, to stone, and commanding evil spirits, evil beasts and dragons and having the devil in hell as a trusted companion.

Knox describes the photographer she hires to remake her image from that of witch and she-devil as a “Morgan le Fay”!? Is one witch in need of another? She may protest that she refers strictly to Budd’s physical appearance but there may be more to it. It reminds me of the Merlin Club in Perugia where Meredith went. Is Meredith King Arthur or Lady Guinevere from Britain whom Morgan hates with a passion?

Morgan le Fay according to Wikipedia resides in the place known as the Vale Perilous, and has several sisters. Sounds like Knox. She was a dangerous enemy of King Arthur, a vindictive adversary of him and all his knights with a special hatred for Queen Guinevere.

Morgan was wanton, sexually aggressive, a student of black magic, a vengeful temptress. Sounds like Simon Hattenstone’s question Who is Amanda Knox? Sounds like the person Nina Burleigh tried to dispel in her book about fatal gift of Beauty.

Morgan created subversive mischief, then retired to the land of Gore. She plots to ambush and kill Lancelot. She was a leader of the witch queens. She was a half-sister of King Arthur himself. She is part healer, part devil. Despite her hostility she eventually repents somewhat and ends up one of the four enchantress queens who transport wounded King Arthur to Avalon, the Isle of Apples.

Remember the wormy apples in Amanda’s H.O.T. video and the shadowy woman in black holding umbrella by the window, much like some of the ethereal figures by the sea in Dawndra Budd’s photographs.

King Arthur with his wounds is last seen with his head in Morgan’s lap on the black boat carrying him to Avalon. Where was Meredith’s body last seen? Who was with her? Those who killed her.

Was King Arthur healed on Avalon or did he die? Myth has it he will one day return to save Great Britain.

Morgan le Fay in modern revisionist retelling is often a symbol of feminist power or feminine spirituality. She is revamped in TV series “Merlin” (2008) and Camelot (2011). She is in both Marvel comics and DC comics.

Knox said that Madison once took pictures of her on the roof or lying in the street. {Sounds like Madison put her friend too high or too low.}

She is hardly the Fiddler on the Roof unless she may lament too many females in the family.

Madison photographed Amanda asleep on a Scrabble game at the intersection of a highway. Sounds like a symbol of Knox not wanting to find the words, not knowing how to spell (as her somewhat dyslexic prison writings suggest), or maybe just unable to cast a spell. Asleep at Scrabble. Danger in the road, danger is the game. Knox was seen by Kokomani lying in the street in the dark, words not needed when a knife appears.

Knox asks herself in the Herald article, what will Dawndra Budd make of her? Will Budd put Amanda in a jar, like Budd’s photos of some women in glass jars? Knox said she didn’t want to be pictured behind bars.

Miss Budd has tattoos on both her upper arms, says Knox, mostly tattoos of animals. Budd is an animal lover. Knox describes her as pale, petite with long dark hair and says her photos are like scenes from Grimm’s Fairy Tales or dead Ophelia.

Knox mentions Miss Budd’s mother died, and how the sorrow expressed itself in Budd’s photos.

Even Merlin can’t change what Knox did. She may be craving the image makeovers done when she appeared long ago on national TV shows. Now she wants publicity.

Headlines said she was engaged to Colin Sutherland back in February 2015. Now that’s gone bust, she wants a total transformation of image. Or maybe a last photo session before she pops up pregnant and goes into hiding, who knows? The latter is surmise and speculation. All Kim Kardashian does is take selfies of her post-baby body, proud of her renewed waistline. Egotists are all alike.

Splendidly insightful stuff @Hopeful; there is much to admire in your observations and literary skill in portraying them. Your final four words are entirely correct.

As for your perhaps rhetorical question on King Arthur, I was taught the legend as a youngster that King Arthur was indeed alive and would return in Great Britain’s greatest hour of need.

This EU referendum of ours is the single most important political decision this country will have made since the Second World War. We could do with Arthur wielding Excalibur on our behalf just now.

I’m fairly certain he would be voting Brexit if he came back, I know I will be!!

It might interest you to know that the legend of King Arthur as a romance figure was primarily developed and enhanced by French romance writers in the 15th century and that these tales were collected together by Sir Thomas Mallory in his book “Morte d’Arthure”. Mallory, it is thought, fought against the french at the tail end of the 100 hundred years war when the english were losing all their possessions in France and the economy was in free fall. That catastrophe was to be accompanied at home by civil conflict in the War of The Roses. Mallory turned Arthur (probably a Celtic-Romano figure in origin) into an insular anglo-saxon hero figure at a time when english morale was particularly low.

Your allusion to Arthur voting for Brexit may be pertinent in many more ways than you know or we have yet to understand!

Thanks James, it does indeed interest me and I’m happy to be apprised of the French connection re King Arthur. I was completely ignorant of Mallory’s appropriation.

It does add a certain frisson to next week’s vote. Allez les Brexiteers!
